"April 11-13, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"Prom Night" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Who would have guessed? Well, most in-the-know, when it comes to movie box office predictions, that "Prom Night," the wannabe horror/thriller, yet rated PG-13, would easily clinch the #1 spot at the movie box office, its first weekend in movie theaters. And it did. "Prom Night," a low budget, (less than $20 million), remake of the 1980 R-rated Jamie Lee Curtis starrer, catered to the tweens (boys, girls and gays), and did its job, to the chagrin of Screen Gems, the horror - and black movies - division of Sony Pictures - grabbing $22 million its first weekend in movie theaters. (Watch it fall fast next weekend, however, as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" should make a killing at the #1 spot). How well did Keanu Reeves fare, without the hype of a "Matrix" movie? Not well. His "Street Kings," its first weekend in movie theaters, took in about half of what "Prom Night" grabbed. As for the rest of the Top 10 at the movie box office this weekend? The #1 movie the previous two weekends in movie theaters, "21," ends up at #3, (almost tying "Street Kings" for the #2 spot), while "Nim's Island," starring two-time Oscar winner, lesbian Jodie Foster, and Oscar nominee, "Little Miss Sunshine," Abigail Breslin, settles for #4. George Clooney's football farce, "Leatherheads," is a bonafide bomb, as all football movies are, and had to settle for #5. As for "Smart People," starring Oscar nominees Ellen Page (remember "Juno?") and Thomas Hayden Church? It was a movie box office bomb, taking in only $4 million.
