"April 25-27, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"Baby Mama" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Baby Mama

The Tina Fey and Amy Poelher comedy "Baby Mama." - delivered - coming in #1 at the movie box office.

"Harold And Kumar 2" - one of many stoner comedies to hit movie theaters this year, along with "The Pineapple Express" - follows the cross-country adventures of the pot-smoking duo - again - as they try to outrun authorities who suspect them of being terrorists when they try to sneak a bong on board their flight to Amsterdam. Adding to the mayhem - Neil Patrick Harris. We're still not quite sure why the sequel was made. The first "Harold And Kumar," which no one over 35 has ever heard of, let alone seen, amassed a paltry $18 million during its entire theatrical run - in 2004. (Editor's note: The original "Harold & Kumar" made a killing - about double its movie box office take - on home video).

Fittingly, "Harold And Kumar 2" came in #2 at the movie box office.

It isn't often that two comedies, both aimed at teens and college kids, go head-to-head at the movie box office. Let alone, THREE. Remember, last week's less than stellar performing "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" remains in movie theaters, and tied for the #3 spot at the movie box office this weekend, (with "The Forbidden Kingdom"), making it the first time - probably ever - that three comedies took the top 3 spots at the weekend movie box office.

Additional new movies in theaters this weekend include, Helen Hunt's directorial debut, "Then She Found Me." And a movie that came out of nowhere, a family film, "A Plumm Summer." Both of those films surprised, in a hot mess, tranny fierce good way, at the movie box office.

On the other hand, Hugh ("Wolverine") Jackman's, "Deception" and "Deal" (not to be confused with "The Deal" - in theaters later this year), and the much delayed "Rogue" - all bombed. None more so than "Deal," which really may be the nail in MGM's coffin.

The MGM theatrical publicity department really is in need of a movie that becomes a hit. And when 007 rushes out of the gates this fall, MGM will not be attributed any kudos with that film's marketing or box office success. Why? Because Sony Pictures, a coproducer of "Quantum of Solace," is the studio which will be marketing, advertising and promoting the film.
