"February 1-3, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"Hannah Montana Concert Movie" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com
While the "Hannah Montana The Concert Movie in 3D" is not the first concert movie out of the gate this 2008, (last weekend's "U2 3D" takes that honor), it is certainly the concert movie in all of movie history that will make the most money at the United States movie box office. Although Disney's publicity department alleges publicly, (as any good PR firm would), that the "Hannah Montana The Concert Movie in 3D" will only be in theaters for a 'limited one week engagement,' we have learned that the truth is the movie will remain in theaters until the prepubescent girls - and their older sisters - stop flocking to it. Expect at least a one month battle of the tweens when you're off to movies to see more adult oriented fare such as "In Bruges," "The Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show Movie," "Fool's Gold" and "Diary of the Dead" - if you can squeeze past them. Today, Wild About Movies takes you Behind The Scenes of the "Hannah Montana Concert Movie in 3D." Oh! And if you're a grandparent, and wondering when the studios will appease your moviegoing concert experience, fret no longer about it. Martin Scorsese's "Shine A Light," a Rolling Stones concert film in IMAX, hits theaters in April. Also new in theaters this weekend; "Strange Wilderness," "Over Her Dead Body" and "The Eye." (FYI, all movies in theaters this weekend are worth avoiding like the plague, especially if you're over fourteen). Stick to Superbowl 42 parties and the actual game - today - and skip the movies this weekend. FYI, while The New England Patriots may break records today, as only WAM expected and predicted, the Hannah Montana Concert Movie 3D debuted not only at #1 at the movies, but also became the highest grossing movie ever for a Super Bowl weekend - $31 million. And it takes the honor of highest grossing debut in less than 1000 theaters. ("Hannah Movie" opened in less than 700 theaters, nationwide - 683 theaters - and sold out virtually all shows at all theaters with many kids seeing the movie three or more times this weekend, with a $43,000 per theater average). "The Eye" claimed #2, with nearly $13 million. The other two new movies in theaters, "Strange Wilderness" and "Over Her Dead Body," couldn't even crack the box office Top 10.
As for "2008 Oscar Nominees" - the ones that performed best this past weekend:
"Juno" and "There Will Be Blood"
