"February 29-March 2, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"Semi Pro" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes must be prescient. On Thursday of last week he ordered that New Line Cinema, a movie studio run by incompetent publicists, be folded into the Warner Bros. banner of movie production (incidentally, also run by incompetents). However, the final New Line Cinema movie to get a big screen release, "Semi Pro," starring Will Ferrell, bombed at the box office, despite entering at #1. (Not to mention last week's New Line Cinema big screen release - bomb - "Be Kind Rewind.")
"Semi Pro" was expected by box office analysts and New Line Cinema publicists, to take in more than $30 million its first weekend in movie theaters. Its $15 tally is not something that will ever give Bewkes reason to change his mind.
At #2 at the movie box office this past weekend, last week's #1 movie, "Vantage Point."
The #1 movie on a per screen average, which came in at #4 on the Top 20 list at the movie box office; "The Other Boleyn Girl," starring Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Eric Bana.
As for last week's Oscar winners? Well, their Oscar wins did nothing to help them at the movie box office. "2008 Best Picture Oscar Winner" (we should say multi winner, also winning the Best Director Oscar, the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar and Best Supporting Actor Oscar), "No Country For Old Men," was struggling for life in the Top 10, reaching #9.
"Juno," which won "Best Original Screenplay Oscar" came in a #10.
And Daniel Day Lewis, who won the Best Actor Oscar for "There Will Be Blood," couldn't help the film at the box office with his Oscar. It reached #15. Looks to us as if there was only water.
