"Fool's Gold" #1

Fool's Gold Poster

Although over a half dozen new films hit theaters this weekend, Wild About Movies bet (incorrectly) that last week's #1 movie, "Hannah Montana Concert Movie 3D" retains its spot at the top of the movie box office its sophomore weekend in movie theaters. It had to settle for #3 and $10.5 million. "Fool's Gold," is one of the worst movies in recent memory, (read the reviews), or, if you were one of the many who made it the #1 movie at the box office this weekend, with $22 million, you already know that. Regent Releasing should have bypassed the big screen treatment for Paris Hilton's latest "movie," "The Hottie & the Nottie," and gone the direct-to-DVD route. Her movie couldn't even take in $25,000, yes, thousand, its first three days in 111 theaters, nationwide. On a more promising note, Martin Lawrence's "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins" settled for #2, as it not only attracted a large and loyal black audience, but a lot of teens and white folk as well, earning $17.5 million. "In Bruges," though not a bad flick, was limited to the artst fartsy crowd, as it is in very limited art-house release. Oh! And Vince Vaughn's comedy show movie was DOA, as predicted. Less than $500 per theater, its first weekend in release.

As for "2008 Oscar Nominees" - the ones that performed best this past weekend:

"Juno" #5

"There Will Be Blood"
#10
