"March 7-9, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"10,000 BC" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

A baker's dozen of new flicks hit movie theaters this weekend. Exactly thirteen new movies. The majority - independent films. Among the major movie releases; "10,000 B.C." and "College Road Trip." The problem with "10,000 B.C.," in addition to it being a huge (critical) bomb, is that the studio knew, from day one, that "10,000 B.C." was a bad movie. The film was originally a 2007 release but reportedly tested so poorly that Warner Bros. tossed it to Daylight Saving Time weekend release. Warner Bros. is hoped (correctly, it seems), that advertising the fact that the director also made the smash "Independence Day," (over a decade ago), and marginal movie box office success "The Day After Tomorrow," (a half decade ago), would drag some unsuspecting action seekers into seats the first weekend.
Disney's "College Road Trip," on the other hand, poised to do brisk business with the tween crowd, especially the girls who flocked to and made the "Hannah Montana Concert Movie" the #1 concert movie of all time - performed less than expected.
Also new in theaters; "Miss Pettigrew Lives For Day," starring Oscar winner Frances McDormand (and wife of one of this year's best director - Oscar winners). In addition: "The Bank Job;" "Bar Starz;" "Everybody Wants To Be Italian;" "CJ7;" "Married Life;" "Fighting For Life," (which many do while married for life); "Girls Rock;" Gus Van Sant's "Paranoid Park" the Bollywood film "Black & White" and "Snow Angels."
While the "2008 Oscars" were broadcast two weeks ago, not even the Best Picture winner, "No Country For Old Men" could crack the Top 12.
