"Burn After Reading" #1

Burn After Reading

"Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys" is the first Tyler Perry movie in memory to NOT debut in the #1 spot at the movie box office. Perhaps, riding high on their "2008 Best Picture" and "2008 Best Director" Oscar wins for "No Country For Old Men," the Coen Brother' s "Burn After Reading" scored #1 at the movie box office this weekend, with the help of the film's stars, Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Frances McDormand. Only $1.5 million separated the Top 2 Movies at the movie box office this weekend. "Burn After Reading" grabbed $19.5 million, while Tyler Perry's Family stole $18 million. Lionsgate should have relesaed "Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys" in more theaters if it had wanted to ensure the #1 spot. "Burn After Reading" was released in 2651 theaters, while "The Family That Preys" broke into only 2070 movie theaters. The Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino movie "Righteous Kill," in 3152 movie theaters, settled for #3 at the movie box office with $16.5 million. The dreadful remake of "The Women" scored a surprising $10 million, good enough for fourth place at the weekend movie box office.
