"2008 Foreign Film Oscar Nominees" Record 63 Countries Submit Films for "2008 Oscars" Foreign Film Category For "80th Academy Awards" October 18, 2007
Each year, any number of countries submit one movie (they can only pick one) as their 'official' Best Foreign Film selection, to which they send to the Academy of Motion Pictures from which the Academy selects five pictures to compete for the "Best Foreign Film Oscar." A record 63 countries, including new entrants Azerbaijan and Ireland, have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 80th Academy Awards, Academy President Sid Ganis announced yesterday. The current favorite to WIN the "2008 Best Foreign Film Oscar" is "The Orphanage." The 2007 submissions for "2008 Oscars - Best Foreign Film" are:
