"28 Most Glaring Examples of Actors Being Robbed of an Oscar Nomination" (Since 1985)
"Oscar Snubs"

Ferris Bueller Poster

It is quite easy for anyone or any website to ‘predict’ the Oscar nominees in any given year. In fact, Wild About Movies did so in our BLOG, over one month ago. (See how close we came to picking all of the “2008 Oscar Nominees” correctly - in our BLOG).

What I find more intriguing, are the actors who have been left out of the acting “Oscar Nomination” categories, especially during the past twenty-five, or so, years - the number of years I have watched, religiously, and paid very close attention to each Oscars ceremony.

When I started out writing this article, over 100 actors appeared on my list. But I narrowed my official list of “Robbed of the Acting Oscar Nomination” list – to seven in each of the acting categories for which Oscars are given out – beginning with the 1986 Oscar ceremony – the year “Out of Africa” won the Best Picture Oscar.

What you’ll notice most - the Oscar committee, made up of actors, loves to snub comedy films.

Any of the performances listed below – in my opinion – were not only worthy of an Oscar nod, but also an Oscar win.

The Seven Best Actors Robbed of a Best Actor Oscar Nomination (Since 1985)

Johnny Depp – Edward Scissorhands
Matthew Broderick – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Steve Martin – Roxanne
Michael Douglas – Fatal Attraction
Leonardo DiCaprio – Titanic
Jamie Bell – Billy Elliot
Sacha Baron Cohen - Borat

The Seven Best Actors Robbed of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nomination (Since 1985)

Alan Rickman – Die Hard
Daniel Day Lewis – A Room With A View
Jack Nicholson – Batman
Jack Nicholson – The Departed
Robert DeNiro – The Untouchables
Terrence Stamp – Priscilla: Queen of the Desert
Divine – Hairspray (1988)

"ACTRESS OSCAR SNUBS" - BELOW

The Seven Best Actresses Robbed of a Best Actress Oscar Nomination (Since 1985)

Debbie Reynolds – Mother
Natalie Portman – The Professional
Bette Davis – The Whales of August
Lillian Gish – The Whales of August
Christine Lahti – Housekeeping
Helena Bonham Carter – A Room With A View
Pam Greer – Jackie Brown

The Seven Best Actresses Robbed of a Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nomination (Since 1985)

Diane Wiest – Radio Days
Meryl Streep – The Hours
Ellen DeGeneres – Finding Nemo
Imelda Staunton – Any Harry Potter film
Maggie Smith – Any Harry Potter film
Amanda Plummer – Pulp Fiction
Geena Rowlands – The Notebook

The one acting Oscar nomination snub - that is considered, unanimously, (except by me), to be the biggest snub in Oscar history - Madonna, getting the shaft for “Evita" really makes me laugh. Because I thought not only was the movie "Evita" dreadful, but the acting less than Oscar worthy, let alone winnable.
