"Oscar Trivia: Day 18"
"Actors Who Have Batted .000 Against Oscar"
by Tim Nasson
February 14, 2008

Fatal Attraction PosterWe think you'll be quite shocked not just who has been nominated for at least five acting Oscars - and walked away with ZERO - but also how many actors there are that seem to be unloved by their peers. However, it's a catch 22. They have the nominations but just couldn't score a win.

Below, the list of the nine actors who have been nominated for a minimum of five acting Oscars - yet to come away empty handed after each Oscar ceremony for which they sat, waiting, hoping to win the Oscar.

Peter O'Toole takes the lead but is only in his early 70s, so who knows? There have been many actors who have won Oscars well into their 80s. In fact, Ruby Dee, who is 82, just may win her first Oscar this year for her role in "American Gangster."

Some words of advice; "Patience Is A Virtue." Paul Newman, one of the world's most lauded actors of his generation, was nominated for 8 acting Oscars before he won, in 1986 for the sequel to "The Hustler," (the same role for which he was nominated in 1961), "The Color of Money."

* Both Peter O'Toole & Richard Burton were nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for Becket. Neither won for that film, and both actors (with O'Toole still alive) score cards remain .000 against Oscar.
