"Oscar Trivia" Main Page

Philadelphia Poster

This is a very short list of actors who have won an acting Oscar two years in a row. In fact, we're not sure which is most surprising; that Tom Hanks was the last to do it, or that "Philadelphia," the first movie for which he WON an Oscar, was released in theaters fifteen years ago. For the complete list of the five actors/actresses who have won an acting Oscar two consecutive years direct your eyes below!

Luise Rainer - Won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1936 for "The Great Ziegfeld" and in 1937 for "The Good Earth."

Spencer Tracy - Won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1938 for "Captains Courageous" and in 1939 for "Boys Town."

Katherine Hepburn - Won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1967 for "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" and while winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 1968 for "The Lion In Winter, became the only actress in history to share the Oscar, due to a tie. Barbra Streisand tied, and won her first and only Oscar for "Funny Girl" the same year.

Jason Robards - Won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1976 for "All The President's Men" and in 1977 for "Julia."

Tom Hanks - Won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1994 for "Philadelphia" and in 1995 for "Forrest Gump."

Of the above mentioned actors, Katherine Hepburn won the most Oscars - four, although she was nominated for twelve acting Oscars.

(Meryl Streep holds the record, with fourteen Academy Award nominations, to date).
