"Oscar Trivia" Main Page
Low and behold - During the 79 previous Oscar ceremonies, (this year is the "80th Annual Academy Awards"), there has been only one tie in a major Oscar race!
Which category? Which year? We'll say this much - two divas had to share the Top Prize - the Best Actress Oscar!
Drum roll, please... The only tie for a major Oscar win in Oscar history was in 1968, at the 41st Academy Awards, where Katharine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter and Barbra Streisand for Funny Girl each took home an Oscar for Best Actress! (There were EXACTLY the same amount of votes for both Hepburn and Streisand, according to the accounting firm in charge of tallying the votes. However, according to Academy Award rules and stipulations, the number of votes for any Oscar win have never been nor ever will be publicly disclosed). *
* Katherine Hepburn remains the most Oscar winning actress - with four Academy Awards. Katherine Hepburn won the Best Actress Oscar for the following four movies; 1982 "On Golden Pond"; 1969 "The Lion In Winter"; 1968 "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"; 1934 "Morning Glory"
Katherine Hepburn was nominated for 12 Oscars, winning four.
However, presently, Meryl Streep has eclipsed Katherine Hepburn's number of Oscar nominations. Meryl Streep, who has won 2 Oscars, to date, has been nominated for fourteen acting Academy Awards. And at age fifty-nine, Streep has a long time to go to take the record from Hepburn, perhaps winning five acting Oscars.
Katherine Hepburn was over 75 when she won her final Oscar, in 1982, for "On Golden Pond."
