"Oscar Trivia" Main Page
It has been over a decade, more than 10 years, since a movie has been bestowed with both the Best Actor and Best Actress Oscar. And, in the 80 years of Oscar history, the event has happened only 7 times.
And don't count on an 8th addition to the list this year.
Before 1975, "It Happened One Night," only. And between 1975-1981 it happened four times. It has yet to happen during this millennium.
Reflecting back, it's amazing that "Titanic" isn't included in the mix, below, as it is tied as the most Oscar nominated movie in history. (But, as you know, if you're Wild About Movies, Leonardo DiCaprio, the lead actor in "Titanic," was snubbed by the Academy and deprived a Best Actor Oscar nomination. And, if he had received it, which many argue he should have, "Titanic" would be the all-time Oscar nominee leader - with 15 Academy Award Nominations).
Ladies! Your chances of WINNING Best Actress go way up if you're in a movie with Jack Nicholson. His two Best Actor Oscars were during the same year the Best Actress Oscar went to the same movie.
Below - the seven movies in which the lead actor and lead actress took home the Oscar from the same movie.
1934 Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert -- It Happened One Night
1975 Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher -- One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
1976 Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway -- Network
1978 Jon Voight, Jane Fonda -- Coming Home
1981 Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn -- On Golden Pond
1991 Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster -- The Silence of the Lambs
1997 Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt -- As Good As It Gets
