Below, the list of Oscar nominated and Oscar winning actors and actresses who are currently on television either in first run programs or on telelvision shows in wide syndication. Best Actress Oscar Nominee - "Mrs. Brown"
Best Actress Oscar Winner - "Children Of A Lesser God" Granted, there are not many Oscar worthy big screen roles for the verbally challenged, but don't give Marlee Matlin any sympathy. After winning her Oscar, over 20 years ago, she popped up on the small screen regularly, in guest spots, until she secured a lead in "The West Wing," and after that show was cancelend, in the cable drama "The L Word," which is going into its sixth season. Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Goodfellas"
Lorraine Bracco didn't seem to give a rat's ass that Hollywood dumped her pretty ass after her Oscar nominated performance in Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas." What did she care, after getting the role of a lifetime, on the TV show of a lifetime, Dr. Jennifer Melfi on "The Sopranos". And four Emmy nominations to boot for her role in "The Sopranos." Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "The Cooler" While Alec Baldwin may not be fetching millions for his big screen work, as of late, he is on TV. Ever hear of "30 Rock?" Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "To Be Or Not To Be" Charles Durning may not be on his way to his third Oscar nomination. But you can see constantly as Father Hubley on one of the most celebrated television sitcoms of all time - which will probably never go out of syndication - "Everybody Loves Raymond." And, currently as Denis Leary's dad on the highly rated cable television show "Rescue Me." Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "Forrest Gump" Gary Sinise is one of the former A-list movie stars going the TV route. For four years he has starred on the CSI spin-off; "CSI: New York." Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Rambling Rose" Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Wild At Heart" Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" With not many directors coming knocking at her door - and shame on fucking them - for big screen roles, Diane Ladd has had the last laugh, making guest appearances on numerous television shows, (including "Cold Case" and "ER"). Diane Ladd also was on the Stephen King television series "Kingdom Hospital" in 2004 for its entire run. Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Secrets And Lies" Marianne who? Trust me. You know her. You've helped make her show, which has been on CBS for over 6 years, one of the most popular each week. Marianne Jean-Baptiste stars opposite Anthony Lapaglia in the Top 20 Nielsen rated FBI show, "Without A Trace." And, there seems to be no end in sight for the show, either. Two more seasons have been secured, with both stars, signing on. Marianne Jean-Baptiste became a star overnight following the international success of the social drama "Secrets & Lies" in 1996, becoming the very first black British actress nominated for an Oscar. And, yes, Jean-Baptiste, like Hugh Laurie of the TV smash drama "House," has a naturally British accent, which she seamlessly gets rid of during each episode of "Without A Trace." Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "Babe"
Before "Babe" Cromwell made a name as Stretch Cunningham on the 70s classic sitcom "All In The Family." After "Babe," and his Oscar nomination, James Cromwell went on to star in two hit TV shows: "24" and "Six Feet Under." Best Supporting Actor Oscar Winner - "Ed Wood" Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominee - "Crimes And Misdemeanors" Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominne - "Tucker: The Man And His Dream" After decades of big screen successes, and Oscar nominations and a win, Martin Landau has toned it down with regular television guest appearances on "Without A Trace," "The Evidence," and "Entourage." Best Supporting Actress Oscar Nominee - "Twice In A Lifetime"
Amy Madigan, even after an Oscar nomination, couldn't make it on the big screen. But in 24 episodes of HBO's "Carnivale," she shined brighter than the north star. We do have to admit, however, that Ben Affleck was wise to choose her for a great role in the Oscar nominated "Gone Baby Gone." Best Supporting Actor Oscar Winner - "Syrianna" Best Actor Oscar Nominee - "Michael Clayton" Don't forget that after George Clooney got his big break on the small screen in "The Facts of Life," he made it big in the 1994 Michael Crichton television drama "ER" as Doctor Doug Ross. Needless to say, the show is still going strong in first run, without Clooney, but the reruns in which he appears are just as popular on television each day. Best Actress Oscar Winner - "Moonstruck" Best Supporting Actress Nominee - "Silkwood"
Since her Oscar win for "Moonstruck," Cher has pretty much remained invisible on the big screen, concentrating on her singing career, geared towards the gays, (like Madonna), and don't forget those infamous infomercials Cher did after her "Moonstruck" Oscar win, which were even parodied on Saturday Night Live. But, we LOVE Cher, and hope she wins a second Oscar, even if we have to wait until she's 80, (and unable to sing and dance in concert), which isn't as far off as you may think. And don't get us started on the Oscar winning and nominated actresses and actors who are now pimping themselves in television commercials; Sally Field in the "Boniva" ads. Diane Lane in Neutrogena commercials. And Queen Latifah in the Pizza Hut and Cover Girl and Curvation TV ads.
