For Colored Girls

For Colored Girls Release Date: November 5, 2010

Based on Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 play, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,” which consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color, Tyler Perry brings the movie to the big screen – with a cast of colored A-list ladies, not in the least, but noticably absent in the posters, Oprah Winfrey. The movie, directed by and adapted for the screen by Tyler Perry, and which goes by the shorter title “For Colored Girls,” deals with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion. The play morphed into an Emmy Award-nominated television special and is still being performed around the world. Lacking in the cast of the movie, Oscar winners Halle Berry and Mo’Nique and black Oscar nominees Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibie and Queen Latifah. Also missing from the cast, Mrs. Will Smith, Sanaa Lathan and Pam Grier, among many others, Or is it that currently, presently, there are so many colored actresses who are great that there were too many from which to choose for this movie. Yippee, I guess. Or, are any of the above who were left out on Oprah’s sh*t list? She’s a producer of the movie, in addition to star, as well as Tyler Perry’s BFF. We wanted Pam Grier to win an Oscar for “Jackie Brown” more than a dozen years ago, and she wasn’t even nominated. Shame! Shame! Shame!
