In Movie Theaters August 10, 2012
The About face: Meryl Streep's requisite summer movie... expected to be a slam dunk at the movie box office, as counterprogramming for women to all of the ridiculous comic book inspired movies flooding theaters. Orginally entitled "Great Hope Springs."
The Wild side: Kay (three time Oscar winner Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones) are a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband.
When she hears of a renowned couple's specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy.
Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough -- the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to reignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place.
The Movie facts: Not to be confused with the movie of the same name from 2003, from Walt Disney Company's Touchstone Pictures, starring Oscar winner Colin Firth and Minnie Driver, Heather Graham, Oliver Platt and Mary Steenburgen.
Apparently Columbia Pictures isn't too worried that audiences will confuse this as a theatrical rerelease of the 2003 movie - especially since the 2003 "Hope Springs" was never released in U.S. theaters, going straight to DVD.
