The About face: Based on the Jack Kerouac novel of the same name, with Twilight's Kristen Stewart thrown in for good measure.
The Wild side: Dean Moriarty (Garret Hedlund) and Salvatore Paradise (Sam Riley) are the portrait of the Beat Generation living in the here and now during the Fifties. Their search for "It" results in a fast paced, energetic roller coaster ride with highs and lows throughout the U.S.
The Movie facts: The Walter Salles (director of the 1999 Best Foreign language Oscar nominee Central Station) big screen adaption of the Jack Kerouc novel.
Technically, On The Road is a 2012 theatrical release, as it was dumped into one Los Angeles and one NYC theater for one week beginning December 21, 2012 for 2013 Oscar qualifying purposes.
Thankfully, the entire Academy used their brains and decided to not nominate On The Road for any Oscars. The movie sucks. Why would the studio, IFC, even think it had a chance at a technical Oscar nomination?
In any event, as second-tier movie studios are doing more and more, IFC, one of them, IFC is releasing On The Road nationwide, albeit in less than 200 movie theaters, on March 22, 2013. But they are also releasing it on VIDEO ON DEMAND (VOD) three days later, March 25, 2013.
