Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Ridley Scott directed the original Blade Runner, which was released in theaters in 1982. Believe it or not, Blade Runner took in only $27 million at the movie box office when it was originally released. The highest grossing movie of 1982 was E.T., which raked in over $360 million during its initial release.
Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who was nominated for a Best Director Oscar in 2017 for the movie Arrival. He also directed Prisoners, Sicario and Incendies.
