Tuesday 27 October
Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in "Green Zone," a film set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences. During the U.S. led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Matt Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission. Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.... (continue)

Rob Marshall's "NINE"
Latest Weinstein Co. Casualty
Monday 5 October
Rob Marshall, remember his Oscar winning adaptation of the Broadway musical "Chicago?" Well, one would think, a movie directed by Rob Marshall, starring no less than the following - two time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, Oscar winner Penelope Cruz, Oscar winner Sophia Loren, Oscar winner Judi Dench, Oscar nominee Kate Hudson, Grammy winner Fergie - would be high on any movie studio's MUST RELEASE.
Well, here's the skinny, according to an insider at The Weinstein Co. (which Summit Entertainment may reach negotiations to buy before month's end).
Last year, The Weinstein's "The Road" was supposed to hit theaters. But the cocky, vile, some say criminal, Jewish brothers Weinstein didn't want two of their handful of movies to hit theaters in any given year to compete against each other for Best Picture at the Oscars. Everyone knew that "The Road" would earn a Best Picture nomination. But The Brothers Weinstein had more hope for their somewhat Jewish themed movie "The Reader." The Weinsteins chose to release "The Reader," give it a huge Oscar campaign, and shelf "The Road" until this year, when they knew it would be a shoo in for a Best Picture Oscar nomination.
Their bet paid off. "The Reader" was nominated for a plethora of Oscars, including Best Picture, and it won Kate Winslett her first Oscar.
Fast forward to 2009. The Weinsteins have two movies, again, which are Best Picture Oscar candidates, the long delayed "The Road," and "Nine" - which was supposed to hit movie theaters the same day as "The Road," November 25, 2009, (yet, as of today, doesn't even have a movie poster).
The Weinsteins are allegedly taking "Nine" out of the running, so they won't be competing against themselves this coming Oscar season - and are holding back "Nine" for a hopeful 2011 Best Picture Oscar nomination.
That is, if they're still in business. The Weinstein Co. is cash strapped and may be sold before year's end. If that is the case, will the new company that owns rights to all its films pencil in "Nine" again, for a 2009 release?
Why not, we say. The 2010 Oscars offer 10 spots for Best Picture nominees. Why not fill as many as you can with your own studio's movies?... (continue)
