It's hard to imagine that Streep was not recognized by the Academy for her fantastic work as one half of a lesbian couple (and friend to former boyfriend, dying of AIDS), in "The Hours," or as Leonardo DiCaprio's mother in "Marvin's Room." Or for her comedic turns opposite Jack Nicholson in "Heartburn," Roseanne Barr in "She-Devil" and Albert Brooks in "Defending Your Life."

It's not just the Oscar that Streep has won. In addition, she is proud owner of two Emmy Awards for Best Actress. One for the 2003 HBO masterpiece, "Angels In America," the other for the 1978 television miniseries, "Holocaust."

She has been nominated for twenty Golden Globe Awards for Actress and is the winner of five ("Angels In America," "Adaptation," "Sophie's Choice," "The French Liuetenant's Woman," and "Kramer vs. Kramer.")

And, literally, over one hundred other awards - everything from The Boston Society of Film Critics, National Board of Review and Screen Actors Guild Awards to three People's Choice Awards as Favorite Motion Picture Actress to an L.A. Outfest Award for her work in "The Hours."

While it's been a quarter century since Meryl Streep last WON the Oscar, 2007 may be her comeback year. Her perfomance in "The Devil Wears Prada" has Oscar written all over it. Not to mention that for the two Oscars Streep has won, she portrayed a devastated, mentally tortured mother. In "The Devil Wears Prada" it is she who is creating the devastation all around her, but putting smiles on everyone's face in the audience, watching her flawless performance.

Below are the actresses who stole the Oscar from Streep the eleven times she has been nominated for an Academy Award but didn't win.

1978 – “The Deer Hunter” - Meryl Streep - Best Supporting Actress Nomination
1978 - "California Suite" - Maggie Smith - Best Supporting Actress Winner

1981 – “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” - Meryl Streep - Best Actress Nomination
1981 - "On Golden Pond" - Katernine Hepburn - Best Actress Winner

1988 - "The Accused " - Jodie Foster - Best Actress Winner

1990 – “Postcards From the Edge” - Meryl Streep - Best Actress Nomination
1990 - "Misery" - Kathy Bates - Best Actress Winner

1995 – “The Bridges of Madison County” - Meryl Streep - Best Actress Nomination

1999 - "Boys Don't Cry" - Hilary Swank - Best Actress Winner

2002 – “Adaptation” - Meryl Streep - Best Supporting Actress Nomination
2002 - "Chicago" - Catherine Zeta-Jones - Best Supporting Actress Winner

Will "The Devil" earn Streep her fourteenth Oscar nomination and third win? Wild About Movies thinks so!
