"December 14-16, 2007 Movie Box Office"
"I Am Legend" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com
For two months in a row the biggest movie of the month, November with "American Gangster," and this month with "I Am Legend," a black actor, Denzel Washington and Will Smith, respectively, have been the biggest draws at the North American movie box office. If people voted as much for President as they do with their dollars at movie theaters, chances are, Barack Obama would have a huge opportunity at winning the Presidency of the United States next year!
Will Smith's "I Am Legend" took in over $75 million during its first three days in release.
More shocking, the universally panned "Alvin And The Chipmunks," which even the film's distributor thought would tank, brought in triple expectations - $45 million.
It goes to show that whenever new kids flicks, starring CGI talking animals, and action flicks, featuring proven box office talent are released, regardless of quality of the movie, people will show up to movie multiplexes in droves, with buckets of money, buying bucket loads of popcorn.
In limited release, "2008 Golden Globe Nominees" "Atonement," "Juno," "The Kite Runner," and "The Savages" continue to impress, while last week's number movie, "The Golden Compass," sank its second week in theaters, proving once again that New Line Cinema employees, especially the publicists and marketers, will be getting, deservedly, lumps of coals in their Christmas stockings next week!
