June 22-24, 2007 Movie Box Office
"Evan Almighty" #1 - But Not Spectacularly
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Evan Almighty Movie PosterMichael Moore, whose Sicko opened Friday in one NYC theater, was the king of movies, on a per screen basis, this past weekend at the box office. Sicko opened with $70,000. (Sicko opens wide this Friday.) Among the new films that were disappointments for their distributors? Angie Jolie's A Mighty Heart, which averaged less than $3,000 per screen; and Evan Almighty, which its studio, Universal, thought would take in around $50 million - what with the right wing Christians they targeted, who never go to the movies, especially a movie that to most would be mocking God. Evan Almighty was lucky, as we predicted last week, to climb just over the $30 million mark. The biggest surprise of the weekend? That 1408 took the #2 spot from Fantastic Four 2, with over $20 million.
