Saw 4 Poster

"Saw 4" sliced through the box office just as its first three predecessors did - this one amassing $32 million during its first three days in theaters - allowing it bragging rights to the #1 spot at the box office.

Walt Disney's "Dan In Real Life," starring Steve Carell, entered the fray with $12 million. All other newcomers, with the exceptions of "Bella" and the Sidney Lumet thriller "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead," were DOA.

In fact, last week's "Things We Lost In The Fire," starring Oscar winners Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro, which bombed - its opening weekend - couldn't even take in three quarters of a million this weekend, its second. That meant it had a per screen average - three days - of $625. That means for the whole weekend, with ticket prices averaging $6, only 35 people bought tickets each day, Friday through Sunday, at each of the 1142 venues showcasing the film. Compare that number to nearly 2000 people per theater for "Saw 4" during the same time frame.

Holdovers "Tyler Perry's Why Did I get Married?" and "Walt Disney's The Game Plan," in their third and fifth weekends, respectively, remained in the Top 5.

And the thirteen year old Disney film, "Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D," remained in the Top 10, its second weekend in rerelease.

Next weekend sees the release of the Oscar hopeful "American Gangster," starring Oscar winners Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington. Directed by Oscar winner Ridley Scott. Will it jump start the "2008 Oscar Season?"
