Two new releases, fresh off their theatrical runs, debuted in the top two spots on the combined Blu-ray Disc and DVD sales chart the week ended Oct. 2, 2016.
Universal Pictures’ “Warcraft,” a sci-fi actioner based on the popular video game series of the same name, directed by Duncan Jones, (the son of the late singer David Bowie), bowed at # 1 on both the NPD VideoScan overall disc sales chart, which tracks combined Blu-ray Disc and DVD sales, and the dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
Coming in a close second on the overall disc sales chart was Warner’s “Central Intelligence,” a comedy with Dwayne Johnson. Even though “Central Intelligence” earned more than twice as much at the domestic box office as “Warcraft,” $127.4 million versus $47.2 million, it only sold 90% as many units on disc its first week in stores.
