"Running With Scissors" is the feature film adaptation of Augusten Burroughs’ hilarious and poignant childhood memoir - Part One. Growing up in the pill-popping 1970s, young Augusten (Joseph Cross) was living a middle-class existence with an alcoholic father (Alec Baldwin) and a bipolar mother (Annette Bening), an unpublished poet with delusions of becoming famous. When his parents divorce, Augusten’s mother sends him to live with her wildly unorthodox psychiatrist, Dr. Finch (Brian Cox), and his eccentric extended family. "Running With Scissors" chronicles Augusten’s survival, in his own words, under the most extraordinary - and fucked up - of circumstances.

Joseph Cross steps into the scarves and shoes of Augusten Burroughs in "Running With Scissors."
If you are anyone who has any knowledge of TV or movies, you will know that Mr. Cross, who just turned twenty, after completing filming of "Running With Scissors," is one of Hollywood's most sought after young actors. If your eyes are as good as Wild About Movies eyes then you will recall his fascinating perfomances on both "Law & Order" and "Law & Order: SVU." Cross, also stars in the upcoming fall feature, directed by two-time Academy Award winning director Clint Eastwood, "Flags Of Our Fathers," and as Jerri Blank's young brother in the current hit feature film comedy, "Strangers With Candy."
Wild About Movies is going out on a long, heavy limb and predicting that Joseph Cross will earn his first Academy Award nomination before his thirtieth birthday.
Feel free to hold our hands over the coals if our predictions prove wrong.
