Stardust-Poster

Any true cinephile will tell you that 2007 was one of the worst movies ever for theatrical motion picture releases - especially when it came to quality movies. (See complete list of "2007 Movie Releases"). Over 300 movies were released in movie theaters across the United States from January 1 through December 31, 2007. But it was hard for me to pick ten movies that were worthy of being considered the 10 Best. (With "Tim Nasson's Worst Movies of 2007," I had so many movies from which to choose, I had to have three separate lists.) Hardly the case for Wild About Movies picks for "2007's 10 Best Movies." Those kooky folks over at The Hollywood Foreign Press, who have nothing better to do than eat free, courtesy of the bribery of all movie studios, at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel virtually every day of the year, made such fools of themselves by nominating twelve movies for Best Picture Golden Globe Awards consideration, rather than their usual ten. I would bet that out of their twelve choices (see "2008 Golden Globe Best Picture Nominees") a maximum of 2 will earn "2008 Best Picture Oscar Nominations," of which there will only be five. At least the Academy of Motion Pictures has a modicum of self-respect, selecting no more than five movies for any category in which it nominates.

For me, a betting man, it's hard to imagine all but one movie on my Top 10 Movies of 2007 list earning a spot on the "2008 Best Picture Oscar Ballot." But stranger things have happened. (That one movie on my Top 10 list that I think may get an "2008 Oscar Nomination" for Best Picture? "There Will Be Blood.")

As you can guess, "Stardust," one of the most improperly marketed movies in years, a movie that could have and should have been one of the Top 10 grossing movies of 2007, is my favorite film of 2007. And, for all who did see it and love it, (and I know no one who did see that did not love it), good news about Ben Barnes, who plays Young Dustan Thorn in "Stardust." What, you ask? He is "Prince Caspian," in the next two "Chronicles of Narnia Movies." (Watch the "Narnia 2" movie trailer right now).
