"X-Men: The Last Stand" First Look In theaters May 26, 2006 Click here to watch an exclusive SEVEN MINUTE clip from "X-Men 3." $17 Million Fourth Day Gross Estimate - Memorial Day 2006 $107 Three-Day Opening Weekend Estimate While we are not going to give away any of the secrets in "X-Men: The Last Stand," we must advise you to stay in your seats until the very last credit has rolled at the end of the film - even if you are about to explode. All we are going to say is that this is hardly the 'last' stand, if this, the third in the franchise is as big a hit as we think it will be. You will see what we are talking about, for yourself, (and thank us), if you stay planted, until the very, very end of the movie... Above: Shawn Ashmore as Iceman!
In "X-Men: The Last Stand," the final (?) chapter in the "X-Men" motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who preaches tolerance, and Magneto (Ian McKellan), who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test - triggering the war to end all wars. Above: James Marsden as Cyclops If you think, at the very beginning of "X-Men: The Last Stand," that you're at a new "Harry Potter" movie, you wouldn't be alone. The openening sequence of "Last Stand" pays tributee to all things Harry. We go back twenty years, to meet Jean Grey as a pre-teen, aware of her powers, but before she becomes Phoenix - instead of Professor Dumbledor visiting her home, we see Prof. Charles Xavier and Magneto telling her parents that she is 'not ill.' Fast forward ten years, immediately thereafter, to the bathroom of a young Warren Worthington III, and we see the beginnings of Angel, as he tries unsuccessfully to clip his wings. The excitement, replete with death and loss of superpowers, (yes, there are quite a few passings and some characters are rendered human), continues for nearly two nonstop hours.
