"Shutter Island" - Based on Dennis ("Mystic River" and "Gone Baby Gone") Lehane's novel of the same name, the movie "Shutter Island" is a period piece about two U.S. Marshals (Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo) in 1954 who investigate the disappearance of a murderess from a hospital for the criminally insane on "Shutter Island."

"Shutter Island" is a fictional island, off the coast of southern Massachusetts.

Chaos ensues for the two U.S. Marshalls as they encounter a web of deceit, a hurricane, and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.

"Shutter Island" is sure to be a contender for a myriad of Oscar nominations in 2011. Not only is "Shutter Island" Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese's ("The Departed") motion picture, but the film features stars of the highest caliber.

In addition to multi-Oscar nominated actor Leonardo Di Caprio, Best Actor Oscar nominee ("Pelle The Conqueror") Max Von Sydow, Oscar winner Ben Kingsley ("Gandhi"), Oscar nominee Michelle Williams ("Brokeback Mountain"), Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson (of "Pieces of April") and Oscar nominee ("Little Children") Jackie Earle Haley - (who also stars in the 2009 blockbuster "Watchmen") - star in the movie that takes place in and around the mental hospital named "Ashecliffe."

If you haven't read the book "Shutter Island," read it. Because the ending is as shocking, if not more so, than that of the 1999 movie box office smash "The Sixth Sense." And going into the movie you'll want to know what's going on, or you'll have to see it twice - to let the ending really sink in.

Initially, over a year ago, Paramount Pictures was toying with the idea of renaming the film "Ashcliffe," thinking, perhaps, people would confuse "Shutter Island" with the 2008 movie "Shutter." Thankfully, for Paramount Pictures, "Shutter" (from a competing studio) bombed at the movie box office and there will be no confusion.

However, take a look at the many 2009 and 2010 big screen releases that will have everyone confused... (continue)
