The movie Respect is a biopic following Aretha Franklin’s rise, from her beginnings in her father’s choir, to her assent to the Queen of Soul. Jennifer Hudson (Oscar winner, Dreamgirls) was hand picked by Franklin to play her.
Callie Khouri, who wrote Thelma & Louise, wrote the screenplay for Respect, which follows the rise of Franklin’s career — from a child singing in her father’s church choir to a superstar.
Originally scheduled for release on October 9, 2020, the film was put on the shelf due to Wuhan coronavirus and all movie theaters in the world being closed. Its new, tentative, release date is January 15, 2021.
