Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry Release Date: March 5, 2021

The big screen Tom and Jerry sees Tom the cat and Jerry Mouse getting kicked out of their home and relocating to a fancy New York hotel where a scrappy employee named Kayla (Chloe Grace Moretz) will lose her job if she can’t evict Jerry before a high-class wedding at the hotel. Her solution? Hiring piano playing Tom to get rid of the pesky mouse.

The film is a live action/animated hybrid.

Tom and Jerry began life as a series of long-running shorts created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940. They revolved around the exploits of house cat Tom and his never-ending battle with mouse Jerry. Seven of the shorts, released by MGM, won Oscars from 1943-53. The animated pair have remained in the pop culture consciousness over the years, first getting their own full-length animated theatrical film with 1993’s Tom and Jerry: The Movie. That film bombed at the box office. Costing over $8 million it took in less than $3.5 million.

Originally scheduled for release on December 23, 2020, the film was put on the shelf due to Wuhan coronavirus and all movie theaters in the world being closed. Its new, tentative, release date is March 5, 2021.
