2012 NYFCC Winners

Announced December 3, 2012

Complete list of 2012 United States Film Critics Society Award Winners (including Boston, NYC, LA, Chicago, National Board of Review, Golden Globes and 2013 Oscar winners).

The NY Film Critics Circle are the first major critics group to announce Best Of winners for the year 2012 in film.

Before you start placing bets based on the winners listed below, keep in mind that the NYFCC has been around since 1935 but have only picked the actual movie to go on to win the Best Picture Oscar less than 10 times since 1980. And a handful of their winners for Best Picture never even went on to score aBest Picture Oscar nomination, including, most recently, Mullholland Drive, Topsy-Turvy, Far From Heaven and Leaving Las Vegas.

As for the NYFCC Best Director Winners, since 1980 and 2003, they picked the director that went on to win the Best Director Oscar a whopping one time.

This years’ NYFCC winner for Best Supporting Actor, Matthew McConaughey, will almost assuredly not receive an Oscar nomination. Nor will Rachel Weisz, who won the NYFCC 2012 Best Actress Award.

Keep in mind that NO film critics group has seen Les Miserables yet. Therefore, their voting is quite biased, inaccurate and shoddy, as they have not seen every movie that will be competing for and most likely winning Oscars in 2013.
