Nicole Kidman

Last week I spent two days in Manhattan, taking time one afternoon to watch Rabbit Hole, and the other interviewing the cast of the Christmas 2010 big screen movie Rabbit Hole, which includes Nicole Kidman (see exclusive photo, above). And the film's acclaimed director, John Cameron Mitchell.

Since my piece of shit BlackBerry, which I took some photos with, generated horrid quality pictures... thanks to Brad Balfour, of The Huffington Post and of this website (his own), for helping out and sharing his pictures from the day with Wild About Movies.

Take a look at more exclusive pictures of the cast and crew of Rabbit Hole, from this week's interviews (at the Trump Soho Hotel) including Aaron Eckhart, Sandra Oh, and director of RABBIT HOLE, John Cameron Mitchell... (continue)

The Eagle Poster

First Focus Features, the studio behind the movie, was going to release the picture in Fall 2010. It was pushed back to Winter 2011. And, originally, the movie was being released under the title "The Eagle Of The Ninth," the name of the book on which the movie is based. Why they had to shorten it to "The Eagle," leaves everyone wondering if they thought that keeping the title of the movie the same as the book would confuse people into thinking that the story was based on an eagle that lived on the ninth hole of a golf course.

Much more importantly for the gays, Jamie Bell plays Channing Tatum's slave in the movie. Can't wait. Two snaps and a swirl for ya'll, just based on that fact alone.. (continue)

The isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. The 1982 film Tron, was about hacker/arcade owner Kevin Flynn who is digitally broken down into a data stream by a villainous software pirate known as the Master Control Program (MCP) and reconstituted into the internal, 3-D graphical world of computers. It is there, in the ultimate blazingly colorful, geometrically intense landscapes of cyberspace, that Flynn joins forces with Tron to outmaneuver the MCP that holds them captive in the equivalent of a gigantic, infinitely challenging computer game. The new movie acts as the "next chapter." Olivia Wilde plays a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film. Garrett Hedlund plays a siren in the virtual world. Check out a slew of new Tron 2 posters today, here... (continue)

True Grit Poster

The 2010 version of True Grit is a remake of the 1969 movie of the same name, in which John Wayne starred as Rooster Cogburn, and in his only Oscar winning performance. Both movies are based on the Charles Portis novel, which is about a 14 year old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory. While the original film was a showcase for John Wayne, the Coens Bros.' version tells the tale from the girl's point of view. In the 2010 version of True Grit, last year's Oscar winner for Best Actor, Jeff Bridges, steps into John Wayne's shoes and slides into his gun belt. The original also starred Kim Darby as the teen, Jeff Corey as the killer and featured Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper as fellow outlaws. HudPatricia Neal, the Oscar winning actress (1964, Hud) whose life off-screen life contained as much drama, tragedy, and inspiration as any of her film or theater roles, died Sunday at her home in Martha's Vineyard of lung cancer; she was 84. An Oscar, Tony and Golden Globe winner, Neal was just as well known for the trials, tribulations and triumphs she lived through, including a nervous breakdown, the death of one of her children, and a series of strokes that left her in a three week coma while pregnant at the age of 39. Her subsequent rehabilitation, with the help of her then husband, author Roald Dahl, led to yet another chapter of her acting career, as well as her pioneering for the cause of stroke rehabilitation.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Miss Neal in Los Angeles at The Four Seasons @ Beverly Hills over a decade ago for one of her last movies; Cookie's Fortune, a little seen, but Robert Altman gem.

Andrew Garfield_Spiderman

There's nothing wrong with Andrew Garfield. He's cute. He held his weight against Meryl Streep and Robert Redford and Tom Cruise in the fast forgotten movie box office bomb Lions For Lambs. The problem that I have with Andrew Garfield being chosen as the 'new' Spiderman' - a reinvention of the worldwide movie box office smash trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire - is that Sony Pictures, the saga's distributor, were crying foul that Tobey Maguire was too old; the franchise needed younger blood; that this new Spiderman would feature Peter Parker in high school who finds out for the first time that he has superpowers.

Well, that would have been all well and good - if Sony had picked someone who was young enough to pull the feat off. You see, Andrew Garfield will be THIRTY years old when the first in a planned trilogy of Spiderman movies starring him hits theaters. Hardly the age of a highschooler.

Eat Pray Love Goes From R to PG-13 Without Editing
June 10, 2010

Eat Pray Love PosterVery few movies that receive an R-rating originally from the MPAA get a revised PG-13 rating - without editing - on appeal. One of the most prominent ones in the past 25 years, Murphy's Romance, starring two-time Oscar winner Sally Field and Oscar nominee James Garner. Eat Pray Love, which just received a PG-13, instead of its original R-rating, is brought to you by the creator of TV's most popular show, GLEE. Find out why the movie Eat Pray Love was originally rated R and now has the less strict PG-13 rating - although, we're sure that there will be hardly any under 18 year olds going to the movie in any event, as it appeals to - only - 20-50 year old females... Young People FingThere have been a handful of recent big screen movies - yes, released in theaters - with titles that would make most parents cringe; Young People Fucking, Spanking The Monkey, Zack & Miri Make A Porno, Knocked Up, to name just a handful. For some reason, movie titles can get a pass. thanks for having this conversation about the recent Wikipedia porn controversy – I see this is our third Q&A. First off, as a website owner and editor I always have to be mindful of the balance between titillating stories and images and outright offending my advertisers and readers. This is a movie site after all and the truth is, some people don’t like racy images, let alone porn. I wouldn’t be the first person to admit sometimes I can’t see the difference. I don’t want my site censored – people like scandals - but neither do I want to drive away advertisers and readers. How does your site Sexual Fables handle that dilemma... (continue)

Footloose PosterChace Crawford is the second C-list actor to be cut loose from the remake of the movie Footloose - which, incidentally, was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2008. Originally, dancing queen Zac Efron was poised to kick off his dancing shoes. Embarassed by the prospect, he bailed. Who will replace Chace Crawford? Please, not the nation's newest dancing queen, Justin Bieber? Then again, though he's 16, his 'producers' dress that little doll up as if she hasn't yet gone through puberty and is still about 11 years old. So, that wouldn't work. Maybe Stewie Griffin? Yeah, that's it. The Footloose remake is such an outrageous and preposterous idea, that an animated, 3D version would probably be the only thing that attracted attention at the movie box office! The latest director attached to the project is Craig Brewer, who brought us the Oscar nominated Hustle & Flow. Why? Enough of these 80s remakes. Just watch the originals.
