"July 20-22, 2007 Movie Box Office"
"Chuck And Larry" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com
Apparently - "Harry Potter" fans, the 12 million, alone, that bought the seventh and final installment in the series of the "Harry Potter" books, its first day in stores (July 21), were more interested in finding out the wizard's fate in the final chapter - than seeing him on screen in the fifth film in the saga. Adam Sandler and husband Kevin James stole the #1 spot at the box office their first weekend in theaters in the gay marriage comedy, "I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry," taking in $34.5 million. "Harry Potter 5" dropped from its #1 spot last weekend, to #2, taking in just over $32 million. Coming in at #3, the best new movie of the weekend, a remake; "Hairspray The Movie." It stars John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, (will he get a Best Actor Oscar nod for the role?), along with Nicole Blonsky as her daughter. One of 2007's best films, "Hairspray The Movie," is based on the Tony Winning musical, which was based on the 1988 John Waters film of the same name, (which was not a musical). "Hairspray The Movie" has the chance of becoming the summer movie with the 'longest legs,' since word of mouth will be off the roof! In its first three days in theaters, "Hairspray The Movie" amassed over $28 million. The highest grossing opening weekend for a musical, to date. Also new in theaters, the great "Mandy Lane," "Your Mommy Kills Animals," Danny Boyle's "Sunshine," (in only a few theaters - PRINT PASSES to upcoming Free Movie Screenings in more than 50 cities), and the marginal "Cashback." The two films which will be gone from theaters faster than "Grindhouse" and "Hostel 2"? "Goya's Ghost" and "Chuck And Larry." Wild About Movies takes you Behind The Scenes of all of this weekend's new film fare and brings you the trailers, posters and interviews.
