"Hancock" - Worst Movie of 2008, Through July 1, 2008
June 30, 2008

Don't count out "WALLE" taking the July 4th long weekend #1 spot at the movie box office, in addition to the overwhelming lock it had this past weekend, its first in movie theaters. Will Smith's "Hancock," in movie theaters next week, is the worst movie of 2008, thus far - and Will Smith's worst movie, to date. And what's up with the stereotypical negro lips in the "Hancock" poster? Will Smith's lips are not half that big in real life... (continue)
"The Tale Of Despereaux" - Watch The Movie Trailer"
June 27, 2008
Since Universal Pictures bombed a while back with their "Veggie Tales" animated movie, and before that, in 1995, "Balto," why not let them try again? Perhaps the third time's the charm. Watch the "Tale of Despereaux" movie trailer - right now... (continue)
"The Day The Earth Stood Still" ala 2008
June 26, 2008
Nearly sixty years after the original (a sufficient time in between, we think, for a remake) 20th Century Fox trots out a new, and hopefully improved, "The Day The Earth Stood Still."
The original "The Day The Earth Stood Still" hit movie theaters in 1951 and was directed by Robert Wise, yes the same man who went on to direct Julie Andrews, et al, in the multi Oscar winning musical "The Sound of Music."
The new "The Day The Earth Stood Still" stars Keanu Reeves and Oscar winners Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates - and is directed by the current nobody Scott Derickson. But who knows which Oscar winning gay comedy musical thriller period piece he may direct in the future... (continue)
"The Fast And The Furious 4" - In Movie Theaters June 5, 2009
June 25, 2008

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Then how did Universal screw up the second and third Fast And Furious movies - #2 sans Vin Diesel and #3 devoid of both Paul Walker AND Vin Diesel. Well, for The Fast And The Furious 4, the fourth time will be a charm. Vin Diesel AND Paul Walker return for "The Fast And The Furious 4" - in movie theaters Summer 2009. Everyone favorite lesbian Latina, Michelle Rodriguez, also returns.
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker re-team for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on Fast cars - "The Fast And The Furious 4." Heading back to the streets where it all began, they rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert in the new high-octane action-thriller. When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmaneuver him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel... (continue)
"The Pink Panther 2" - In Movies Theaters 2009
June 23, 2008

The first Pink Panther movie, starring Peter Sellers, directed by Blake Edwards, (longtime husband of Oscar winning actress Julie Andrews), hit movie theaters in 1963. In 1993, thirty years after the first "Pink Panther" drew audiences to movie theaters, the seventh and final Blake Edwards version, i.e., final "Pink Panther" movie directed by Blake Edwards, was released in movie theaters: "Son Of The Pink Panther."
In 2006 the "Pink Panther" film series, created by Blake Edwards, was resurrected and reinvented. And, now, three years after the reinvention of "The Pink Panther" movie, 2009, "The Pink Panther 2," starring Steve Martin, hits movie theaters, worldwide. "Bollywood Comes To Hollywood: Via Steven Spielbeg"

It's about to happen. Finally. Bollywood buying into Hollywood. And no one less than multi Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg is helping to facilitate the joint venture - for nearly 1/2 Billion dollars... (continue)
"CELTIC PRIDE"
June 18, 2008
It may be one of the worst movies of the 90s and perhaps the worst basketball movie of all time. But... We know of no better way to show OUR Boston "Celtic Pride" the day after the Boston Celtics won their first NBA Championship since 1986 - in a rematch against the Los Angeles Lakers - in the biggest blowout in NBA Playoffs history. Why we care? Because Wild About Movies was born, bred and remains a proud Boston based company.
Go Celtics - again in 2009.
And, FYI. Do yourselves a favor and skip the movie "Celtic Pride." Instead, run to the Celtics proshop at the Boston Garden (or The Boston Celtics online) and spend your money on a T-shirt or baseball cap with the Boston Celtics as 2008 NBA Champs as a souvenier.

"The Stone Angel" - Starring Ellen Burstyn
June 17, 2008

Ellen Burstyn, that Oscar winning actress, (for all you young 'uns), is back on the big screen in "The Stone Angel." Oh! And if you're wondering which movie Ellen Burstyn won the Oscar for, well, we'll tell you. It was for the 1973 Martin Scorsese movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." But, she was also nominated four additional times for the Best Actress In A Leading Role Academy Award: for the 2000 movie "Requiem For A Dream." The 1980 film "Ressurection." And the 1978 movie "Same Time, Next Year." And for the 1972 movie "The Exorcist" - her most famous role. Ellen Burstyn was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 1971 movie "The Last Picture Show." Today, watch "The Stone Angel" movie trailer... (continue)
"The Rebound" - Starring Catherine Zeta Jones
June 15, 2008

Catherine Zeta Jones seemed to have settled into the married life, what with her marriage to Michael Douglas, who is old enough to be her father. Now, she returns to the big screen, this time, playing a woman old enough to be the mother of her lover. "The Rebound" doesn't hit movie theaters until late 2009. But we bring you the poster and more about the nonsensical yet predictable story today... (continue)
"Robocop" - The Remake
June 13, 2008

Granted, "RoboCop," starring Peter Weller, was one of the best movies of 1987 and, arguably, Paul Verhoeven's best movie, to date. But does it need to be remade? Whether you think so or not, it is being remade and hits movie theaters 2010... (continue)
"There Will Be Blood" @ Paramount Vantage
June 5, 2008

Paramount's idiot bigshot Rob Moore (and mouthpiece for bigger shot Brad Grey) certainly assumes that "There Will Be Blood," and said Tuesday that he plans to fold, (obviously at the command of Brad Grey), the marketing, distribution, and physical production operations of Paramount Vantage into the larger parent studio, Paramount Pictures. The 'official' and nonsensical reason...
Accoring to Rob Moore, "The new consolidated structure allows both Paramount and Paramount Vantage to leverage the strengths and resources of a combined talent base, while minimizing redundancies and optimizing efficiencies." Or, in other words, Paramount, even though they will probably end up on top after year's end, as the most successful movie studio - at the movie box office - is cheap and wants to rid itself of dozens of employees and consolodate its payroll - even though it got smaller when they fired a ton of Paramount employees after the Dreamworks merger a number of months back - retaining the incompetent Dreamworks employees, especially Michael Vollman and Christine Batista.
Let it be known that no one at Paramount Pictures helped in any way with the Oscar WINNING campaigns for "No Country For Old Men" or "There Will Be Blood," both of which were Paramount Vantage or Paramount Vantage co-releases.
"Sir Ben Kingsley" - In Person: Boston
June 3, 2008
It's not often that Oscar winning actors, knighted by the Queen of England, travel alone, without pressing publicists and/or mad managers. On Sunday night, 1 June, however, I stumbled, literally, into Sir Ben Kingsley, who was traveling, alone - almost. He was with his fourth wife, the charming, young and beautiful Daniela.
I say I stumbled into Sir Ben Kingsley, because, well, I just about did. if you have ever set foot into the Boston Admirals Club during the past five years or so, you'll know that the former Flagship Lounge is now just part of the Admirals Club, no longer a VIP room for First Class passengers only, (as it was for nary five years beginning in the late 90s), and is open to anyone who enters the main Club (or knows it, the former VIP room, is there).
Since the main rooms of the Club were quite full, I meandered into the former Flagship Lounge, to my favorite area, the very back section, if when you walk in, you continue walking in a straight line - and which is usually quite empty.
I walked in, newspaper in one hand, bottle of water in the other, computer bag slung over my shoulder, eyes glancing at the Week-In-Review section of the Sunday Times, taking the corner to the section of the room I wanted to sit in - alone, undisturbed for the half hour I had to wait for my flight to the west coast - and stop short, about 2 inches short, of bumping into Sir Ben Kingsley - who was looking dapper as ever, wearing a blue sports jacket and jeans jacket.
"Excuse me," I begged. And then, "How nice to bump into you Mr. Kingsley." I couldn't bring myself to refer to him as Sir. It just seems so formal, at least here in the United States.
The Oscar winning actor of the 1983 Best Picture winning film "Gandhi" couldn't have been more of a non-Hollywood type, nor a stuffy Brit, what with the title of Sir, that one may expect. While I have interviewed virtually every living actor who has appeared in a major motion picture since the late 80s, an interview with Sir Ben Kingsley never materialized. And I called him on that.
"I finally get to meet you," I continued. "And what a pleasure it is. But, I was supposed to interview you at the 'Bloodrayne' junket a couple of years back but you were AWOL," I laughed, thinking, one second after I uttered the word "Bloodrayne," I may have put my foot in my mouth. (The four time Oscar nominee - and Best Actor Oscar winner for the movie "Gandhi" would most likely not want to be reminded of starring in one of the worst movies ever made).
But I couldn't have been more shocked. "My apologies. I am so sorry I wasn't there," was what he said. Not "You bloody fool. That was not me in the movie but my cloned twin."
We chatted more, after he introduced me to his lovely wife, and talked a couple of minutes about the reason he was in Boston - going back and forth to Los Angeles, often, recently - the filming of the new Martin Scorsese movie (in and around Boston) "Shutter Island." FYI - Leonardo DiCaprio is the lead.
Having recently sponsored a very advance movie screening of Sir Ben Kingsley's upcoming movie "The Wackness," I commented that the crowd at the theater, mostly college aged kids, (since that is the target audience for that film), couldn't get enough of the vulgarity of the movie and that it promises to be a summer sleeper. He seemed to agree, saying, "The kids who I have been in the audience with seem to just eat it up."
More about "Shutter Island" and a proper interview with Sir Ben Kingsley when the movie hits movie theaters sometime next year. For now, check out the R-rated movie trailer of "The Wackeness"... (continue)
"Gomorra" Gets US Distributor
May 28, 2008

IFC Entertainment, one of the more active film buyers at the recently concluded Festival de Cannes, has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the Grand Prix winner "Gomorra" for under $1 million. Directed by Italian Matteo Garrone ("Primo Amore"), "Gomorra" is based on the best-selling Italian novel. "Just when we thought we had seen it all, Matteo Garrone has reinvented the Italian Mafia picture with such originality and invention that it seems entirely new," IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring said. "We think that this completely fresh take on a well-known genre ... will take American audiences by storm as it did in Cannes."

"David Cook Wins American Idol Season 7"
May 22, 2008

Thank the gods that Wild About Movies is not in the 'medium' business. If we were, we'd be thrown to the lions. Somehow, our and most peoples' predictions proved incorrect. Perhaps we should have consulted a real psychic.
One David received 56% of the 97 million votes tallied from Tuesday night's American Idol Show. The other David received 44%. And you are not hallucinating. David Cook won American Idol Season 7... (continue)
David Archuleta A Safe Bet To Win "American Idol: Season 7" In A LANDSLIDE
May 21, 2008
If you missed last night's final "American Idol: Season 7" competition between the two Davids, Cook and Archuleta, don't even bother wasting time tomorrow night to find out who wins the competition. We'll bet both David's lives on the fact that Archuleta wins by the biggest margin, to date, since the inception of "American Idol".
Lest anyone who didn't watch last night's star-making performance of David Archuleta not forget that at the end of David Cook's last song, he shed not a few tears, we think, knowing that the competition was over. Signed. Sealed. Delivered. Without a vote yet cast.
Also, let no one forget that LAST WEEK, Simon Cowell thought that the crown of "AI Winner 2008" should go to the other David - Cook. Until last night, when he announced that David Archuleta had performed a "knock out."
And, if you're wondering what nationalities the cutest American Idol contestant to date is - and who most likely will go on to become the most successful "American Idol" contestant ever - his mother is a native of Honduras, and his controlling stage dad is half Irish and half Mexican which makes the little David Archuleta a mutt of the cutest kind.
"Summer Movie Sequels" - Predictions
May 16, 2008

"Fantasia: The Howling Hyena" On "American Idol" Last Night
May 15, 2008
Syesha was voted off American Idol last night. Big woop! But the shock of the evening? The horrendous performance by howling hyena, former Idol winner Fantasia. Fantasia seems to have gotten bigger than a pregnant cow, (unless I had my 52" inch plasma TV in the wrong viewing format), but also seemed to be on crack.
At my east coast home this week, I watched the show 2 hours before it was broadcast in Scottsdale, AZ. Calling home in AZ, I told my housemate to fast forward the show, since we TiVo it, to Fantasia and to watch her horrible howling hyena perfomance just for laughs. He said he would, but would also close the patio door for fear that the coyotes would come rushing in thinking one of their own was in distress - or that dinner, in the form of a hyena, was being served.
Click here to watch the dreadful (just what was she attempting to sing?) Fantasia performance.
And Simon Cowell's reaction at the end of the Fantasia performance sums it up. We have it all on video for you. Click here to watch Simon Cowell's reaction at the end of Fantasia's performance. How in the name of any god that you worship did Fantasia ever WIN "American Idol" the season in which she competed?
"Poultrygeist" - Yes, an X-rated Spoof of "Poltergeist"
May 14, 2008

The most profitable - independent - movie at the movie box office this past weekend was not "Iron Man," rather "Poultrygeist." It cackles into a theater near you soon. For the X-rated "Poultrygeist" movie trailer and to find out which theater it will be at in your neck of the woods, literally... (continue)
"Archuleta Banned From 'American Idol'"
May 13, 2008
OK. Finally! David Archuleta's stage dad, piece of white trash, Jeff, has been banned from the backstage and rehearsals of American Idol Season 7, and coming into contact with any other American Idol contestant, including his son, David, while they are rehearsing.
David Archuleta, the American Idol contestant, and most adorable, and cutest David since the one created by Michaelangelo in the history of the known world, so far - will win the competition, or else - Wild About Movies will launch an investigation as to how the results are actually tabulated.
But his apparently mentally unstable father, on the other hand, needs to take a hike. And that is exactly what the producers and vocal coaches of American Idol have told the senior Archuleta; "fuck off and take a long walk off a short pier."
It has been reported for months, that David Archuleta's father has been a stage dad - get a life, dad, your own - and reduced the obvious highly sensitive 17 year old and talented front runner to win the whole American Idol competition to tears during rehearsals.
Last week, David's father, Jeff, according to our sources behind the scenes at Fox, told his son, in plain view of the producers, during his son's rehearsal of the song "Stand By Me," to change a couple of words. The Idol higher ups demanded no such changes be made to the song - for legal reasons, among others. But, the brainwashed (and I know what that is like, especially at 17, having been raised by a fanatic, still nutcase, Jehovah's Witness father), seventeen year old Archuleta, didn't listen to Idol but - yes, of course, his scary dad, who we think must beat the shit out of him whenever he is not in public site. Note to Department of Children Services: Investigate the home of the Archuleta family and/or for David Archuleta, who is certainly old enough to do so, (though brainwashed, and probably incapable), to emancipate himself from his family.
It never amazes how parents who never made it to wherever they wanted to go in their wildest dreams - and remain trash - yet produce offspring who have a chance do anything successful, be is sports, singing, skating, gymnastics or even modeling, have to butt in to the extent of an Archuleta Sr. or Jean Benet mother. Enough already! Let kids be kids and if they succeed, great. But let them do it on their own.
We'd bet our site on the fact that if David Archuleta signs a contract, with a major record label, with or without the help of American Idol, which he undoubtedly will, his father will say, "That is my money, any money you earn. I raised you for 18 years and without you, you'd be nothing."
Our advice to David - tell your father to drop dead, fuck off and get his own life. You're the talent, not him... (continue)
"Indiana Jones 4" - "A BIG MESS"
May 11, 2008

"Speed Racer" is officially a movie box office disaster. And Paramount, is not doing any kind of movie junket for "Indiana Jones 4." The last time a major movie did not have a junket? Never! Word from the 2 people I know who have seen the movie? "A Big Mess." Well, Paramount shouldn't really give a rat's ass or tail. Even though they won't make any money off of "Iron Man," (they only get a distribution fee, as it is a MARVEL STUDIOS movie), they have "The Love Guru," with Mike Myers coming out later this summer. And no matter how bad the reviews for "Indiana Jones 4" are, it will still be the biggest movie at the movie box office this summer. Guaranteed... (continue)
"HATED IT" - "Narnia 2"
May 10, 2008

You may be wondering why, even though many movie critics including me, Tim Nasson, have seen "The Chronicles of Narnia 2," (and the rest will be seeing it Monday night at press screenings throughout the nation), there have been no published movie reviews of the film, even on that Rotten site in which everyone who thinks they are a movie critic posts their nonsensical epistles of the last movie they saw? "Narnia 2" marks the first major movie released by a Hollywood studio - since the dawn of the internet - in which movie critics had to sign a waiver which stated, in essence, "there is a strict embargo on film reviews of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian until opening day and by attending the press screening of the film you must state in writing that you will not publish in any form a review of the movie before its May 16, 2008 release," before they could see the movie. We're waiting to see which movie critic first pisses off Disney and subsequently pisses their movie critic career away writing an advance review of the "Narnia 2" movie's May 16th release. We all know that the little rice queen, Vice President of Disney Marketing, "Jack Pan," will be scouring the internet every minute of every day up until May 16, EST, to see who the first sacrificial lamb will be. What do we think of "Narnia 2?" Well, we're only giving our opinion, not movie review... as the two queens from "In Living Color," MEN ON FILM, would say, "HATED IT!" Regardless, "Narnia 2" will probably make some decent dough before "Indiana Jones 4" hits movie theaters the week after and cleans up, what with the help of Shia LaBeouf and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. But Disney need not worry about losing money this summer, as their "Walle," which we have also seen, is a great picture and will most likely win next year's Best Animated Movie Oscar. What do we have for you by the way of "Narnia 2," barring a movie review? BEHIND THE SCENES of "The Chronicles of Narnia 2," today... (continue)
UPDATE: May 10, 2008 - It seems that prehistoric movie critic Todd McCarthy of Variety, the daily Hollywood trade newspaper, (a) either doesn't give a shit about his fifty year career as a movie critic, (b) is above the powers that be at Disney and their 'embargo,' or (c) - which we think is the most logical choice - made a deal with Disney to publish the review of "The Chronicles of Narnia 2," (since it was a glowing, kiss ass review, perhaps?). No one from Disney, including "Jack Pan," responded to our emails, nor did Todd McCarthy at Variety, (as of 10PM tonight). Stay tuned, if you care.
John Waters' "FRUITCAKE"
May 9, 2008
When in doubt. Go directly to the source. So I emailed John Waters, today, after seeing on the wires that his upcoming movie "Fruitcake" had been partially cast.
His quote regarding Parker Posey and Johnny Knoxville being cast in his upcoming 'family film' "Fruitcake," is that those reports were "quite optimistic and only partially correct."
Regarding casting of the children who will play the kids in the 'family movie,' John Waters said, "kids are the last people cast in films because they change so much from month to month – so it will be a while before that happens."
As for the 'alleged' plot, that John Waters will not discuss:
The plot of "Fruitcake" is said to center on the title character, a boy named after his favorite dessert. He runs away from home during the Christmas holidays after he and his parents are caught shoplifting meat, then meets up with a runaway girl raised by two gay men and searching for her birth mother.
Since this is a 'family' film, we doubt there will be any DIVINE inspiration from Pink Flamingos from the scene where she - Divine - steals a steak and sticks it in her cunt to marinate.
In addition to the Hollwood Reporter's errors, announced by John Waters, they all screwed up mentioning that THINKFilm would be distributing "Fruitcake."
UPDATE: Accoring to a Vice President at THINKFilm, "
Hey Tim – I don’t know where that rumor started, but this ["Fruitcake"]is not our film."
As you may know, John Waters' Broadway version of "Cry Baby" is currently playing to somewhat mixed reviews. I am seeing it next week. His comment to me about that, “I hope you have a great time at Cry Baby, I did”.
Jason Castro - AMERICAN IDOL 2008 LOSER
May 8, 2008

OK. Enough of calling Paula Adbul out onto the carpet for being a drunk and/or pill popper. If anyone believes, after watching last night's "American Idol," that Jason Castro wasn't as stoned as either the "Bobs" (yes, um, Bob Marley or Bob Dylan, as he sang their songs, thinking the night before it would be a tribute to them), were on an average day of their singing careers, well, HIGH AS A KITE, on whatever the weed that turned them on, then well, we can't argue. But. Let's be serial. I am serious. Jason Castro took one or ten many too many puffs from the bong of elimination - which he must have wanted... (continue)

Nicole Kidman - 3rd OSCAR?

Nicole Kidman, according to sources at Wild About Movies, will be playing Dusty Springfield in a new biopic of the late singer's life. The 40-year-old star (yes, Ms. former Tom Cruise, is now 40), is to team up again with Michael Cunningham - who scripted her Oscar-winning performance in 2002's The Hours, for which she won her FIRST Oscar. We say her FIRST Oscar because we believe, here at WILD ABOUT MOVIES, that Nicole Kidman has a 'chance' at winning her SECOND Oscar for her performance in the upcoming - (Christmas 2008) - movie, "Australia." "Speed 3" ???
April 28, 2008

One thing is for certain. The movie "Speed Racer" hits theaters in less than three weeks. What is debatable is whether or not there will be a "Speed 3," starring Sandra Bullock. We have the 'alleged' artwork from the 'alleged' Summer 2009 movie release.
Here's what we know for sure. 20th Century Fox is currently denying the fact that if there is a "Speed 3" that they have anything to do with it. And since they produced and released the first two "Speed" movies, both starring Sandra Bullock, why would they lie?
On another note, someone - either a certifiable nutcase, with nothing better to do with their time than create fictitious web sites; OR 20th Century Fox, (who would have been lying); OR a third party movie studio, who has already signed Sandra Bullock to "Speed 3," - has created THREE "Speed 3" movie web sites - with a poster implying that Sandra Bullock is riding one of those 'allegedly,' still being created, Richard Branson, Virgin spacemobiles, trying to keep it at a certain 'speed' before it either explodes into the atmosphere or crash lands to earth.
Do stay tuned for more about the making of "Speed 3" or about the admittance to the insane asylum of whomever wasted their time and energy creating such fraudulent sites, if they are a joke, three weeks after April Fools Day.
We're in Los Angeles this weekend talking to Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz about "What Happens In Vegas" - a 20th Century Fox movie, by the way.
When we get back to Boston, we'll be on the set of "The Proposal," which is currently filming in and around Boston, and will get the news right from the horse's mouth - speaking to Sandra Bullock, herself!

"Angels & Demons Movie" Gets New Cast Members
April 26, 2008
If Oscar winning director Ron Howard had had his way, his "Angels & Demons" movie, the prequel to "The DaVinci Code," would have been released this fall. That would have gave two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks another chance to make nice with hairdressers around the world, sooner. However, the Writers' Strike delayed the film's production. But, now comes the news that joining Tom Hanks, as Robert Langdon, sexy Scot, Ewan McGregor, and ravishing Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer.

"Fox Home Video" - First Again, In Technology
April 25, 2008
Fox Home Video is the first movie studio home video division to bring movies to movie critics via their computers.
In a press release issued today, Fox Home Video outlined the new technology.
Excerpts from Fox Press Release:
In an effort to innovatively serve your media needs and allow for greater long lead deadline flexibility, we would like to introduce you to our all-new “Screening Room” feature on our press website. This new section will allow you to screen select feature films and TV shows via your computer well in advance of the DVD street date for review consideration. We will begin to send out regular email updates once a new title has been uploaded to the site for screening purposes.
Once you log on, this will take you to the list of titles currently available for online streaming. Please note – you will be limited to only 3 viewings per title; this includes any attempt you make to screen this film (even if you only watch a few minutes of the film and log out).
We will continue to make every effort to provide advance DVD product in time to meet your review deadlines – this new online streaming option is only to help supplement any longer lead deadlines in advance of these screener mailings.
I will never forget the breakfast I had at the Four Seasons Regency Beverly Wilshire, over 5 years ago, with Kavita Smith, who at the time was at Sony Home Video, and is now VP President of Fox Home Video.
"There is this big fight among the movie studios," she said to me, her dainty and beautiful frame picking at a plate of fruit and yogurt. "Half are hedging their bets on a new technology called Blu-Ray, and the other half are being courted by HD. Both are expected to give DVDs a run for their money in the next few years. But only one can really win."
When I asked her which she thought would be triumphant, she presciently said, "Blu-Ray, for sure."
Just as there is no doubt that Smith's insight into the Blu-Ray phenomenon was on the money, we're confident that she had a lot to do with helping Fox Home Video become the first movie studio to allow movie critics to watch and review movies to be on DVD right from the comfort of their computer.
And, you can bet that, now, that I will finally figure out how to hook up my computer to my Sony Bravia, (which sits on my big desk next to my computer), which is usually tuned in to the Fox News Channel. (Unless any of the "Law & Order" incarnations are on).
The first movie I will watch on the Fox Home Video press site's screening room, you may wonder: Well, since I missed it in theaters, and I haven't yet received the DVD screener, it will be "Bonneville."
Wild About Movies' money is on ALL movies being available for download on computers in the next couple of years, as BlueTooth will make it even easier for one to connect their computer to their flat screen Plasma TVs.
We're even betting that within a couple of years, you'll be able to download thousands of movies right here at Wild About Movies, right to your computer.
"The Hobbit Movies" - Guillermo DelToro Director
April 25, 2008
It was officially announced yesterday that Guillermo DelToro, director of the critically acclaimed "Pan's Labyrinth," will be directing the upcoming "The Hobbit" movies, most likely hitting movie theaters in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
New Line, which was officially disbanded, but still has its imprint in place - weird - is producing the movies with MGM.
Guillermo DelToro will be moving to New Zealand for four years, during which filming of two "The Hobbit" movies, prequels to "Lord of the Rings" movies, will commence... (continue)
Carly Smithson Booted From American Idol - 5 Left
April 24, 2008
The nonsense has officially begun at American Idol. It was bad enough when sexy Australian Michael Johns got the boot from American Idol. But last night's axing of Irish punk rocker Carly Smithson was just ridiculous. Even more nonsensical? The fact that both Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado were in the bottom two of all American Idol April 22 performances after voting ended. Yet without a doubt, by critical and general consensus, both girls 'officially' in the bottom two of voting results last night, were each 1 million times better than both Brooke White and Jason Castro, who performed their Andrew Lloyd Webber songs dreadfully, and each could have and should have been given their walking papers.
Does this mean that, as usual, the American Idol winner will NOT be the overall favorite of that given year? Ruben Studdard? Please. Who won last year? That girl from Arizona! 90 out of 100 people wouldn't be able to tell you her name! And, Fantasia who?
If David Archuleta does not win American Idol 2008, there needs to be a Congressional investigation as to how voting on the American Idol show actually takes place, since it seems to be so goddamned secretive - let alone, people are allowed to vote 10,000 times if they want to, instead of only once, for their favorite or least favorite singer.
A Letter From "Leonardo DiCaprio"
April 23, 2008

While yesterday was Earth Day, (whatever that is), Leonardo DiCaprio, who seems to have been Green since as long as he has been lean, sent a personal message via email to a number of executives at Hewlett Packard.
The letter, in its entirety, follows!
___________________________
Message from Leonardo di Caprio
To: HP Employees in North America
From: Leonardo di Caprio
Subject: Earth Day 2008
Hi HP Employees:
On the occasion of Earth Day, I'd like to send you a quick note to thank you for HP's support of 11th Hour Action and the 11th Hour Film Campus Tour going on right now all across the United States. Thanks to HP, thousands of students will see the film and hear the message of the urgency of taking action to lighten our footprint on Planet Earth. This effort continues HP's long-standing corporate environmental leadership and innovation, which was recognized by Global Green USA - on whose board I sit - in 2002. I applaud HP, and urge you all will continue to drive HP's leadership towards solving our climate crisis through innovative, sustainable solutions.
Among the dozens of experts profiled in the film, including Stephen Hawking, Sylvia Earle and David Suzuki, was prominent Economist Correspondent Vijay Vaitheeswaran. Vijay speaks to the role that technology and innovation can play in reducing our energy consumption: "Once we send the right signal from the marketplace, … the two guys in the garage who created Hewlett-Packard, well those two guys today, I want them to be working on clean energy." This is the spirit of innovation we need today among corporations and budding entrepreneurs, along with urgent leadership from our government leaders, to take action on climate change.
On Earth Day, please be part of the solution in your backyard: get active in Earth Day activities (whether at HP or in your local communities), and join the 11th Hour Action Network at http://11thhouraction.com to pledge an action and connect with thousands of others doing the same.
Sincerely,
Leo

While we brought you this news over a year ago, it's time to mention it again. You can actually hang out with Leo, for a few thousand bucks, beginning next year, when his Green Hotel, which will be managed under The Four Seasons Hotel banner, opens in Belize's Blackadore Caye area.
According to Leonardo DiCaprio, "the design of the hideaway – including the use of renewable energy sources – will respect the island’s wildlife and tropical surroundings." Because Blackadore Caye is so long and thin, it will easily accommodate an airstrip. The island boasts Belize's famous white sands and turquoise waters, with the Belize Barrier Reef just half an hour a way by boat.
Sandra Bullock & Husband Jesse James Involved in Drunk Driving Accident in Massacusetts
April 21, 2008
IN CASE YOU WERE ENSCONSED IN YOUR BACKYARD ALL WEEKEND, PRUNING, CULTIVATING and/or SUNBATHING, and had not access to the intercom, er internet, we bring you the news that: Sandra Bullock, in Massachusetts filming "The Proposal," was riding in an SUV with her husband Jesse James, which was hit - head on- by a crazy old drunk woman whose blood alcohol level was over 2 1/2 times the legal limit.
No one was injured, but both cars were towed. Lucille P. Gatchell, 64, of Gloucester was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of - a lot of - alcohol and failure to stay in marked lanes, a police report said.
Doubtful the hot tranny mess, not in a good way, drunk driving senior citizen, dirty vaginal canal, will be getting an autograph from the famous couple she hit - head on - nor tickets to the world premiere of the Disney movie filming in and around Gloucester, MA; the same city a number of movie box office hits - and bombs - have been film in; "Captains Courageous," "Author, Author," "Mermaids," "Blown Away," "The Good Son," "The Crucible," "The Love Letter," "The Perfect Storm," "State and Main," "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" and "Stuck On You"... "Helen Hunt - or is it?"
April 14, 2008

Helen Hunt has a new movie coming to movie theaters; "Then She Found Me" - and she directed it, too. But who cares about that? (The poor woman, a Best Actress Oscar winner for 1997's "As Good As It Gets" hasn't starred in a major motion picture since the year 2000, when she was in three; "Cast Away," "Pay It Forward" and the last movie I interviewed her for, "What Women Want."
Just think, if you replaced the H in Helen Hunt's last name with a C, well, you know what you would get, and that is exactly what Jimmy Kimmel joked about two years ago, when that very talented tennis player, but obviously not too intelligent negress, Venus Williams was in front of Morton's at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, and was asked what her favorite moment at the Oscars was.
"I loved when Philip Semen Hoffman won the Oscar," she said, referring to Philip Seymour Hoffman's win for "Capote."
The brilliant Jimmy Kimmel asked, "What would she have referred to Helen Hunt as, if she had won the Oscar this year?"
Enought about 'cunt.' If you're a regular WAM reader, and we know you are if you're reading the blog, you know it is my favorite word! Remember when Jane Fonda couldn't hold her's and let the word slip out on "The Today Show" earlier this year! Go JANE! (Do SEARCH our site for that!)
Enough of that. Yes, we know poor Helen Cunt, I mean Helen Hunt, hasn't been in a real movie for 8 years. But she has a new title to add to her resume. DIRECTOR.
THINKFilm bought her directorial debut, "Then She Found Me," which not only Hunt directs but also stars in. Costarring: Current Las Vegas main attraction and Oscar nominee Bette Midler, along with Mr. Sex And The City - Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick.

"Oprah" Goes to the Dogs
April 3, 2008
Oprah Winfrey is dedicating a special show to her beloved dog Sophie, who died last month. The program, set to air tomorrow, will investigate abuse at puppy mills - and will be broadcast in memory of Winfrey's cocker spaniel, who died from kidney failure. She says, "Sophie gave me 13 years of unconditional love. She was a true love in my life. (The show is) for anybody anywhere who loves a dog, has ever loved a dog, or just cares about their basic right to humane treatment." And Winfrey insists any new additions to her canine brood will now be adopted from an animal shelter, rather than from a breeder, thanks to the effect the special has had on her. She adds, "I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show."
"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" - From Hawaii to A Movie Theater Near You
April 2, 2008
We're curious why Universal, the studio behind "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," would create a teaser poster of the film stating that she sucks, when, in fact, the movie sucks. Did we just say that? Even though Universal wasted millions of dollars flying press from around the world, including WAM, to Hawaii for a four day movie junket for the movie, starring television nobodies Jason Segel and Kristen Bell.
Whoever said that there is such a thing as a junket whore can eat crow. Yes, as mentioned, Universal paid for the trip to Hawaii for worldwide members of the press, including WAM, but we are telling it like it is. Good publicity can't be bought - unless it is through advertising - which undoubtedly Universal will try to do.
More on about "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," (filmed in Hawaii, thus the junket in Hawaii), an apt title, later this month, as the film hits theaters April 18, 2008. To watch the R-rated movie trailer right now... (continue)

"The Babysitters - Movie Trailer Premiere"
March 25, 2008

While Elisabeth Shue was a C-list star in the 1980s, probably best known for her titty scene in "Cocktail," opposite Tom Cruise, it is "Adventures In Babysitting" that put her on the Hollywood (Films) map. Yes, Disney, along with their now defunct "Hollywood" banner, produced both films...
OK. We're fucking with you. This blog item has nothing to do with Elisabeth Shue, or her even less than zero popular brother Andrew.
The movie we're pimping today is "The Babysitters," which has only a title in common with an Elisabeth Shue movie.
Today, we bring you the raunchy, R-rated movie trailer of "The Babysitters." But, keep in mind, we are directing you to the movie studio's website. Not the site featured on "The Babysitters" movie poster, above. Try typing that URL into your web browser and you'll get a dead web site.
Thank us for it, providing you with the actual movie trailer of "The Babysitters," since the friggin studio, the brand spanking new, but obviously bankrupt PeaceArch, couldn't even pay the bill for their 'official' "The Babysittters" web site (featured on the poster above) to host the movie trailer... "Star Wars 3D" - In Movie Theaters...
March 19, 2008
Although numerous filmmakers and studio executives have been forecasting that 3-D movies will become the wave of the future, with several animation units being converted to 3-D productions exclusively, including no less than 9 during 2009, George Lucas has not joined the 3-D boosters' club. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, Lucas said that his August 15, 2008 release of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the theatrical version of his Cartoon Network series, will not be presented in 3-D, despite numerous reports to the contrary. His reasoning? "Well, you know, it's expensive," he told the magazine, "and we felt that everybody kind of looks at the downside: It would cost twice as much to do it in 3-D as it did to do the movie in the first place. So you say, ''Well, gosh, do you think we're going to get that much more out of it?"
However, George Lucas maintained that he still intends to make good on converting his original Star Wars movies into 3-D. "It's just that technically it's a much harder thing to pull off than we thought."
Anthony Minghella - Dead at 54

"R-rated Movie Trailers - In Movie Theaters"
March 18, 2008
Regal Cinemas, the nation's largest movie theater chain, has decided to once again show red-band movie trailers before all R-rated and NC-17 rated movies, proving that movie theater chains will do anything for more seats in their houses - to be filled by your asses.
Until 2000, the practice was common at all United States movie theater chains. However, after a 2000 Federal Trade Commission report criticizing the entertainment industry for marketing violent entertainment to children all movie theater chains stopped showing R-rated movie trailers, many of them violent.
It seems all movie theater chains not showing red band movie trailers are hypocrites since it is unlawful for them to sell movie tickets to R-rated and NC-17 rated movies to anyone under 17, which makes their nearly ten year excuse for not showing them (the above mentioned FTC report), a moot point.
Of course, for the past decade, all movie studios have turned to the internet, including Wild About Movies, for promoting their R-rated trailers. Just a few you can check out, right now; "Tropic Thunder," "The Pineapple Express," "Rambo 4" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."
"Flawless - For FREE on TV"
March 16, 2008
You know a movie has to be great when the studio, instead of holding promotional screenings so it can be seen in its intended form, dumps the Word Of Mouth process to TV.
"Flawless," the long delayed upcoming movie starring Demi Moore (who has been too busy to make more than this movie, of late, hanging around Ashton Kutcher), and two time Oscar winner Michael Caine, is yours to see for free... on TV.
HDNet Movies is giving viewers a special sneak preview of the movie "Flawless", starring Demi Moore and Michael Caine, two days before its theatrical release. The movie, a diamond-heist thriller set in 1960s London, is set to air on HDNet Movies at 9 p.m. ET March 26, with an encore at 11:30 p.m.ET. "Flawless" is the latest installment in the HDNet Movies "Sneak Preview" series, which is free to its (very few) subscribers.
"Harry Potter 8" - The Movie
March 13, 2008
Yes. It's confirmed. There will be a total of 8 "Harry Potter" movies. As you know, the book saga ended with "Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows," last summer. However, the book is so complex that, well, read the press release:
Producer David Heyman says it was a difficult decision to make for the studio. "I swear to you it was born out of purely creative reasons. Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book. You can remove scenes of Ron playing quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots . . . but with the seventh, that can't be done."
"Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - The Movie: Part 1" will be released in November 2010, the second installment, "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - The Movie: Part 2" on May 2011.
"Harry Potter 6" hits theaters later this year.
"The Lost Boys 2" Movie Trailer Premiere
March 13, 2008
I was never a fan of the original "The Lost Boys" movie. And upon its 1987 release, I was sixteen, the target age, according to the movie studio, the perfect candidate for making their movie into a blockbuster at the movie box office.
At the time, that year, while I saw virtually every new movie released in movie theaters, I was more fond of movies such as "Fatal Attraction" "Empire Of The Sun," "Moonstruck," "Baby Boom," "84 Charing Cross Road" and "The Untouchables," than juvenile fare such as "The Lost Boys," "Summer School," "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3," "Ernest Goes To Camp," "Can't Buy Me Love," "Teen Wolf Too," "Who's That Girl" and "Adventures In Babysitting."
Well, needless to say, the 1987 movie release getting the most attention this year, "The Lost Boys." Go figure. It gets a sequel, direct-to-DVD, but don't let that fool you.
"The Lost Boys 2" will get its official movie trailer debut on the "I Am Legend" DVD, in stores next week, allowing fans, whoever they were, of the orignal, over twenty years ago, to salivate at the fangs and, undoubtedly, create new little monster fans along the way.
But, if you're wondering, well, the original "The Lost Boys," during its entire theatrical run, took in a meager $32 million. What compelled Warner Bros. to commission a sequel? Perhaps we will never know, especially if "The Lost Boys 2" bombs on DVD.
We bring you "The Lost Boys 2" trailer, today, in advance of its premiere on the "I Am Legend" DVD next week... (continue)
"Heath Ledger's Final Film" - "Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"
March 12, 2008
Many of you may think that "The Dark Knight" will be Heath Ledger's big screen swan song. You'd be incorrect. Heath Ledger's final performance will be in Terry Gilliam's "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus."
Heath Ledger, who died while "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" was in the middle of filming, will not be replaced, per se.
Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law will participate in the completion of the film, each playing the character that Heath Ledger embodied in the film.
"Since the format of the story allows for the preservation of his entire performance, at no point will Heath's work be modified or altered through the use of digital technology," the producers of the film said in a statement. "Each of the parts played by Johnny, Colin and Jude is representative of the many aspects of the character that Heath was playing."
So, Heath Ledger, although gone (dead) stays in the film. But it takes three men to fill the shoes that he voided upon his untimely death.

"Sarah Jessica Parker" - Life After "SEX and the City"

Sarah Jessica Parker's latest movie - no, not "Sex and the City: The Movie" - the one she made before that, "Spinning Into Butter," is getting a ton of free publicity, now that "Sex and the City: The Movie" is on its way into theaters.
Many, especially all the suits in Hollywood who turned down the movie "Spinning Into Butter," thought the movie was dead, since it failed to find a distributor.
"Spinning Into Butter" - financed by the Canadian Cinema Vault, wrapped and was due to be released in 2007, but was hit by delay after delay as producers struggled to get it into theaters without a studio. However, with worldwide publicity for "Sex and the City: The Movie" to begin in full swing next month, we're confident that Sarah Jessica Parker will have lots of free ink and internet and will be able to spin butter into dollars.

"Joan Cusack To Play Isla Fisher's Mom"
March 5, 2008
Are there really no great roles anymore for aging Oscar nominated actresses? Apparently that is the case since Joan Cusack has just been cast as Isla Fisher's mother in the upcoming big screen comedy - "Confesions of A Shopaholic."
And we really feel bad that fat pig, drunk John Goodman has to be sleeping next to Joan Cusack in the movie, as he has been cast as Isla Fisher's dad. We definitely don't see the casting there. Something as beautiful as Isla Fisher could have never sprouted from even the most drunken of John Goodman's sperm - even in movie land, where we are continually asked to check our brains at the entrance to the movie theater doors.
Official synopsis of "Confessions of A Shopaholic" - A college grad lands a job as a financial journalist in New York City to support where she nurtures her shopping addiction and falls for a wealthy entrepreneur.
The movie is based
on the novel "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella.
Of course, we all know that Isla Fisher is engaged to "Borat" (Sacha Baron Cohen) and is the mother of his daughter - and grew up in the same town that the late Heath Ledger was born and raised, Perth, Australia.
